The refined detail of this magnificent Ferahan Sarouk carpet woven in the town tradition at the turn of the 20th century is breathtaking. With a mandala-like presence, the ornate central medallion rests amidst a profusion of realistically rendered flowering vinery, spreading across a resonant cobalt blue reserve with continual shifts of tint intensity. Every botanical element is so splendiferously rendered that one almost forgets they cannot just reach down and pluck a springtime bouquet. Reaching down into this milieu from the cream-toned corner spandrels are two oversized boteh, or seeds of life, infusing the floral smorgasbord with their fecundity. The remaining sumptuous color palette is exceptionally diverse, ranging over sparkling jewel hues of burnt carnelian, emerald, coral, sky sapphire, peridot, citrine, and many others in between. The carpet’s festive border suite is magnificent, especially the stunning original design of the main border. This gorgeous Persian carpet woven some 125 years ago has retained absolutely full pile condition.
