(High-Collectible) ("The California Collection") Demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship with tremendous lyrical clarity of the drawing, this is a mid-19th-century example of an exceptionally seldom-found style. The best Malayers are known for notably refined drawing, but rarely are they as artistically profound as in this piece. An opulent vessel that possibly contains the elixir of life produces a vivified tree that branches lyrically upward to illuminate the dark indigo background. The elaborate network of blossom-laden limbs creates an entrancing atmosphere with its evocative mirrored design, albeit with many improvised variations to be explored. Slender, segmented columns support an overhanging arch just out of frame. Enlivened by deeply appealing jewel tones that dazzle with each facet of the pattern illumined by such hues as searing scarlet, emerald, royal blue, buttercup, with the lightest dusting of delicate celadon covering the vase. Glowing with a deep patina thought heavier pile, this singular rug is alive with enchanting artistic nuance. A uniquely miniaturized main border a offers a sense of compression that heightens the focus on the enthralling scene.
