(High-Collectible)
This transcendent over 175 year old Mohtasham Kashan rug is a monumental artistic achievement that stems from both its very significant age and the virtuoso creativity of a master weaver exploring constant subtle nuances. The design is exceptionally unique, seemingly inspired by 16th century Safavid allover patterning rather than the medallion format of antique Persian court carpets. Here an effusive network of fluidly scrolling vines, archetypal palmettes and graceful garlands fill this art rug's field with countless individual nuances. Using a tour-de-force color theme from the blue spectrum, this incredibly fine carpet's contemplative "blue on blue" pairing of indigo with sapphire and Prussian blue undulates subtly without obvious abrash, a tremendously sophisticated effect. The carpet’s rich, sublime color palette is further emphasized by a midnight blue base of both the field and border that acts as a backdrop for shimmering secondary tones that sink into the design.
