(Connoisseur-Caliber)
Famed for their earthy often geometric themes, this improvisational, heartfelt piece was crafted in one of the small tribal encampments in the mountainous hinterland of the Persian Northwest. Apparently influenced by camelhair weavings from Serab, this piece offers a charmingly naive rendering of conjoined hexagonal medallions of disintegrating rosettes and eccentric tetrads of poppy flowers. Geometric botanical ornaments appear to move and sway in the dark indigo field. The exceptionally intriguing border is a spontaneous wonderland. Its vertical stripes house aqueous blossoms, trees of life, and totally original visual constructions, with room to spare for intermittent wildfowl. Notice how the weaver “widened” them near the bottom, coinciding with a change in pattern. Narrow horizontal bands contain visions of floating mountains, castles, and sparkling jewels.
