(High-Collectible)
("Great Lakes Collection") The most prized, hardest-to-find tribal rugs of Southern Persia are those from the Kashkuli sub-tribe of the Qashqai woven during the early to mid 1800s. Exquisitely detailed, this powerfully totemic offers an immense feast for the eyes and is alive with undiminished natural color and magnificent visual energy. A trio of hexagonal “hearth” medallions each become successively larger as they ascend the field, which allows for a subtle sense depth, creating a bird’s eye view of a fascinating three-dimensional world. The surrounding indigo reserve holds a cosmic tapestry of burgeoning boteh rendered semi-transparent to reveal the germinating flower held inside. They appear to bob and weave like bioluminescent jellyfish. In the corners, spandrels of luscious finely striated vermilion and gold, intriguing talismans, and magical animals interact with one another. At some 170 years of age, with condition reflecting careful handling through this entire period, this unusually refined nomadic rug is a true gem of weaving from the Kashkuli, one that weaves its own alluring spell. GLC rugs cannot be purchased using exchange credit.
