(High-Collectible +) ("The California Collection") When Senneh became the provincial capital of Kurdistan, the new Persian gentry preferred rugs with a much tighter weave and pinpoint detailed designs. Utilizing silk for the warp and weft of the foundation took that consummate approach to even higher levels of luxury. This piece features a one-of-a-kind, extraordinarily finely etched, intricate pattern, where a dozen ivory lozenge-shaped medallions ascend the field in four rows of three, inspired by intricate Persian mosaic tilework. Curious animal figures reside amidst these primary designs, and if viewed carefully, one can see an extraordinary group of birds, running rabbits, goats, and rampant lions amidst tiny boteh 'Seeds of Life'. This menagerie extends to the fiery carnelian border, where a parade of mini-medallions bearing a lotus at their center meet facing pairs of rabbits, posed lions, and ethereal camels. Its potent palette offers richly hued exotic colors that further animate every motif of this exceptionally rare find.
