(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") With palpable majesty, this beguiling, one-in-the-world large room-size carpet offers a stunning departure from what is generally considered the traditional Persian Serapi format. Drifting on a richly abrash-textured carnelian “sea,” the center medallion acts as an island in ivory and indigo, adorned with feathery leaves and an offset lone floret surrounded by rings of color. This glowing reserve floats on a suggested infinity of blue sky where differing assemblages of reductive botanical elements tumble. There also are four figures wearing indigenous costumes, captured in festive poses as though in mid-dance. The frame of lightning bolt leaves and rosettes is a northwest Persian favorite, here spontaneously studded with sprinklings of flowers and boteh seeds.
