(High-Collectible) ("New Arrivals Gallery") This standout Bakshaish carpet is an elemental masterpiece, and its creation was supported by a culture that valued spontaneous artistic gestures. While this iteration has a substantial amount of those, this piece is really a phenomenal Bakshaish village folk-art version of the courtly medallion format carpets one might expect from larger towns and cities. A wonderfully graphic medallion features an ivory lozenge centerpiece, set within an eccentric midnight indigo diamond encased in ivory "petals." A finely striated carnelian reserve allows every surrounding motif to stand out in a sparkling folkloric display. In the cerulean corner spandrels, fantastic botanical abstract art creates a unique gardenscape. Infused with exceedingly fine gradations of evocative abrash, the richly dyed color palette has mellowed over time as intended, heightening every hue to its maximum potential. An extraordinarily playful border pattern is gently animated by virtuoso casual drawing and the spontaneously placed free-floating ornaments on a parchment background. This piece’s remarkable appeal is further enhanced by its exquisite weave and remarkable condition with even pile.
