(High-Collectible-Plus) ("New Arrivals Gallery") This High-Collectible-Plus-level Persian Dorasht Rug with its extensive use of silk highlights is utterly enchanting to study and harkens from a time when rugs of this soaring magnitude were commissioned by royalty and often given as diplomatic gifts of substantial importance. Very early Dorasht rugs such as this are extremely rarely found and treasured for their supremely refined, highly imaginative designs and superlative craftsmanship. Here, a slender branch emerges from a vase and supports a profusion of brilliant ivory flowers on an inner silk reserve of richly saturated cardinal reds. This red realm is suspended on a masterful depiction of the sky and its clouds. Its brilliant azure blues constantly shift in tone, adding tremendous richness to the color palette and serving as a powerful counterpoint to the cardinal hues. The palette is graced by a plethora of other tones, including bronze, russet, champagne-pink, coral, teal, mink brown, deep indigo, cerulean blue, and a brilliant ivory. This piece's extraordinarily innovative design, richly saturated, widely hued color palette, and astounding heavier-pile condition at 175 years of age demonstrate that it has always been held in great respect.
