(High-Collectible)
("The California Collection") The existing number of rugs ascribed to doyen designer Hadji Baba Ganjeh are far less prolific than other eminent Tabriz traditions due to originally small numbers or through the hazards of life. As a result, they are exceptionally rarely found. So imagine our surprise when this treasure was revealed in the collection! Woven under this renowned 19th-century master designer’s unique standards for classical carpets, this vivid showcases an exquisite “Tree of Life” design flawlessly executed by virtuoso dyers and foremost weavers in the city. Glowing trees weave their way across a fiery carnelian field while simultaneously weaving a spell on the viewer. Olive green, ink blue, grapefruit, pistachio, and tea-rose enliven every painstakingly created motif, illuminating this lively forest through the most choice springtime sheep’s wool. Careful attention is paid even in the border where pinpoint knot work has yielded a fire burst pattern of chiseled rosettes and art deco altar palmettes. Superb in both tactility and condition, this rare court carpet is simply one-in-the-world.
