("New Arrivals Gallery") The village of Karaja is known for its identifiable geometric rug design that shares some of the traits of other weaving from the East Azerbaijan region of Persia, including Heriz, Serapi and Bakshaish while adding distinctive elements of their own. A veritable smorgasbord of jewel-toned, geometricized botanical forms surrounds an eye-catching coral centerpiece and bronze latch-hook motif, with vertically flanking ivory medallions in an equilaterally quadrate format. The rich brick red ground features abrash color streaks that lend visual texture, while lighter variances in tonality are used to outline the teeming ornamentation in the top half of the rug that subtly softens their appearance. Spontaneously sprinkled tessellations glitter like gems amidst the vinery and rosettes that cast an almost neon glow. This piece would make an excellent choice for the busy, modern home being both artistically expressive and resilient.
