("New Arrivals Gallery") High-quality Mahajiran Sarouks, such as this room size piece, are noted for their luxurious quality of wool, which is lanolin-rich and offers an extraordinarily luminous sheen. Its gracefully balanced floral sprays emanate from sensitively rendered vases and palmettes that surround an expertly diffused medallion created from four of these flowering branches, subtly unifying all the stylized elements in the field. Floating on a reserve of glowing apricot, the color palette of the foliage is rich in golds and bronzes with splashes of celadon greens, rust reds and indigo throughout. Purposeful color shifts known as abrash give this rug a depth and artistic quality not found in lesser pieces. This carpet is in superb condition with even, heavy pile at a century of age.
