(High-Collectible)
This is a superb, classical example of the most coveted floral rug style of the 19th century in fabulous condition that conveys a consummate level of craftsmanship. Its bipartite medallion and pendants have an impressive architectural quality ennobled by Vitruvian proportions. In the spandrels, the svelte tangerine-hued vinery enveloping the spade-shaped motifs appears to thread through the center palmette before continuing its swirling display. The border of lush rainbow foliage unfurls along willowy branches encountering a series of flowerheads large and small upon a luculent dark sapphire ground. The knotting is extraordinarily tight, and the heavy pile wool quality is outstanding. This extremely fine weave accounts for the overall luminosity from the prescient color choices and sublime ambiance achieved through an omnipresent harmony. 19th-century Mohtashams were woven mostly in smaller dimensions with room-size formats seldom found.
