SERAPI, Northwest Persian
8' 9" x 13' 0" Circa 1900 Price: $32,500
(High-Decorative)
In a creative departure from the spare geometry and open color fields often seen in this style, this unusually finely knotted antique Serapi in heavy-pile condition is uniquely refined, as aptly demonstrated by the abundant delicate flowers that fill its field. The unusually petite medallion appears to radiate these infinitely painstaking botanical motifs the entire distance to the gracious cornerpieces, infusing the entire design with consummate elegance. A dazzling, sensitively chosen color palette of periwinkle blue, pale rose and coffee become especially radiant when expertly juxtaposed against the brilliant carnelian ground. The grand main border offers explosively overscale fronds and multicolored rosettes, subtly balancing the composition through this skilled contrast of scale.
