West Central Persian Antique Rug

(High-Decorative) ("New Arrivals Gallery") Antique Sultanabads are not often found in such small, wonderfully squarish dimensions. This piece is a lovely find that takes the diamond pattern widely used in Persian weavings and opens the portal to another visual dimension. Like an island floating in an inland sea that has parted the landscape, beautifully striated denim hues divide the upper and lower rippled halves into zones of light and shade. One can almost imagine the feathery leaves sweeping back and forth around every rosette and mask-like blossom interconnected by segmented lattice vinery subtly shaded in fern green. A narrow series of border bands accentuate without distracting from the more fully realized central composition. With good pile and an entrancing patina, this piece would elevate many spaces throughout the home.
