(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("New Arrivals Gallery") Sultanabads from the 19th century have become perhaps the most desirable among Persian town weavings, as they appeal strongly to both connoisseurs and interior designers alike. This enthralling example presents a fresh and lively version of the evocative floral stylings Sultanabad is known for in an unusual and stunning presentation. Three immense compartments exhibit a plethora of blossoming stems and vinery across its sand-toned ground. This diverse abundance is drawn with slight, personal variations between every element that reveal the artful improvisational skills of its weavers. Their talent is supported by a thoughtful ensemble of warm hues amplifying the range of shapes with individualized color combinations. Palmette-tipped peaks reach inward from the edge of the frame like great mountains hoarding the botanical riches of nature inside. Relatively narrow borders allow this original pattern to expand to its fullest. A gentle patina across even, medium pile creates a luminosity that cannot be found in contemporary Persian carpets.
