(One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) Offering superb quality and highly elevated artistry, this intoxicatingly beautiful Tabriz would make any ardent fan of this genre swoon with delight. Its magnificent radial medallion is based on the “cloud collar,” as recent scholarship has revealed that this Chinese raiment was brought to Persia by the Timurid dynasty in the 14th century and was very influential on certain medallion carpet designs, especially in the important city of Tabriz. A rich tapestry of surrealistic botanical motifs inhabits the surrounding carnelian field. While idealistic in its presentation, every design element is rife with spontaneous variance in color, size, and shape, imbuing this piece with a gentle animation. Tonal gradations of burnt copper, blued steel, buff, electrum, persimmon, and midnight cobalt ring out in tuneful unison to further demonstrate a masterful sense of compositional harmony. The midnight indigo main border presents a bustling assemblage of color-shifting polychrome peonies.
