(Connoisseur-Caliber)
Some Persian Afshar tribal rugs are completely different in ambiance to their neighbors, the Qashqai and Khamseh Confederacies of Southern Persia and include the rugs woven by their settled contingent in the village of Niriz, known for producing the most finely woven of this style. This outstanding, quite innovative example presents an overscale delicately stepped latticework extending as if into infinity beyond the borders with each compartment offering a sprouting pinwheel blossom at the center of each diamond. A wide-ranging, upbeat palette is highlighted by glowing shades of dazzling fire opal, saturated apricot, and amber that are contrasted with richly hued indigo, sage, Olympic blue and guava. In fantastic condition with even its original kilim binding intact at each fringe end, this exciting example at nearly 150-year-old piece offers even heavier pile.
