(Connoisseur-Caliber)
The highly unusual, overscale “boteh” (Seed of Life) design in this 1nearly 150-year-old Arab Khamseh rug from the southwest desert area of Persia presents a joyous, fecund symbology. It is no wonder that the repeated paisley-like motif in this rug sprouting with an imminent flowering plant thriving at its center would be central to this desert-living group. Here it fills the field with twelve, colorful oversize botehs as well as many smaller floating pods. The height of these seedpods decreasing slightly as they ascend in rows and their quixotic shapes endowing each one with artistic nuances lend a cheerful, carefree ambiance to this venerable, expressive tribal rug. This elemental area size carpet is elevated further by its extremely fine weave, indicative of rugs in the Arab Khamseh style, and its light, nuanced color palette, highlighted by a rich auburn-hued border.
