(High-Collectible) ("Best-of-the-Best Sold in 2018") This spectacular, mid-19th century Bakshaish rug presents a brilliantly original Garden of Paradise design like no other we have seen. Dexterously abstracted to their most essential forms, five vertical axis express a most deconstructed cypress tree motif that is constantly and delightfully varied in hue and freehand outline. An exquisite golden brown, naturally striated camelhair field redoubles the resonance of the potent blue hues in the major devices as well as the gentle rose blush of the elemental shrub designs. In a truly original exploration, rows of an enigmatic motif that evokes fanciful animal to architectural associations appear horizontally between the trees! The striated cerulean border also offers yet another departure from this style’s pattern language. Here the pairing of a completely original diagonal flower and a slightly deconstructed rosette invite more enjoyment of this carpet’s Learn About This Rug Type
