(High-Collectible)
("New Arrivals Gallery") This extraordinary, large room-size Bakshaish village carpet conveys the astonishing level of synchronization primarily seen in rugs from the earlier part of the 1800s, which balances both great spontaneity and overall harmony within the composition. Its visionary field pattern constantly transforms itself, enchanting its viewers with its deceptively sophisticated allover design of spontaneously composed heraldic escutcheon pendants, abstracted blossoming trees, and myriad artfully rendered flowerheads in a variety of complementary scales. Diminutive daisy florets flurry around the larger palmettes like cherry blossoms, blown away in the breeze. Tucked between these aqueous motifs are fantastical miniature creatures in celeste blue and lions with the extended paw pose, the proud emblem of the Safavid dynasty. Ultrafine virtuoso abrash texturing creates a shimmering ripple effect between the fiery cinnabar and lush azure hues and goes above and beyond what is required to engineer a successful piece. Thus this very early village weaving is elevated from a mere carpet into a living, breathing work of art. This unusually wide, almost 175-year-old carpet's wonderful, good pile condition provides the veritable icing on the cake!
