(High-Collectible-Plus) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) The mythological Dragon and Phoenix motif appears in many genres of antique carpets, symbolizing the active and receptive forces of the universe, the pairing of which connotes harmony and good fortune. As evidenced by this aesthetic triumph, the finest antique Bakshaish carpets satisfy the artistic brilliance that collectors seek. Here, the diminutive electrum-hued diamond centerpiece, mounted on a slender cruciform, is enclosed by four ancient 'Dragon and Phoenix' motifs rendered in soft coral, Egyptian blue, and ivory. Two slender pendants enclosing the “Ram’s Horn” motif extend vertically. This central structure resides within an otherwise unadorned, powder-blue reserve. Spontaneously drawn wire-thin latticework filled with myriad colorful blossoms in tones of crimson, cornflower blue, and terra cotta blankets the ivory outer field. The Dragon motif adopts a completely different appearance in the corner spandrels in harmonious juxtaposition to the field.
