(High-Collectible-Plus) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) The innovation of 19th century Bakshaish weavers is limitless. In this outstanding area size rug, another weaver yet again has composed an entirely original work, initiated by the use of camelhair in both the border and the field. Dragon and phoenix symbolism emerge on this amber ground in an ordered, merry fashion and are contained by a daffodil-and-pansy border. Nurtured over the centuries, the connections between greater Persia and the Far East facilitated the exchange of culture and ideas, including the concept of the 'Dragon and Phoenix,' which evokes the dualistic forces of the universe that ultimately maintain harmony, prosperity, and good fortune. In this rare expression, the concept is effortlessly incorporated in all of its mystical charm. Featuring delightful asymmetry and idiosyncratic expression, rosy dragons and burgundy phoenixes cosmically dance on an undyed camelhair ground replete with delicate floral forms. Within a luminous azure blue, a stylized dragon is housed in each corner.
