(High-Collectible-Plus) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) This awe-inspiring, nearly two-centuries-old carpet presents the sacred 'Garden of Paradise' theme that illustrates the vast, stunning arboreal wonderland of Northwest Persia. This early rug’s repeating tree and blossom pattern presents a superb example of the detailing and expression of orderly profusion that Bakshaish artistry is loved for. Exquisitely stylized weeping willow trees, pinecone-like cypresses, blossoming deciduous boughs, and enigmatic diamond-juggling shrubs are depicted in their most essential forms through sensitively virtuosic skill. The beautifully balanced colors are equally inventive, relying on a chromatically shifting showcase of an evocative palette ranging from earthy to exuberant. Vividly communicating tremendous clarity and vitality, every motif independently incandesces, belying its age with vigor. Rhythmic ripples of abrash color striations subtly provide another layer of dimensionality to casually symmetric devices. The main border of this extremely well-preserved folk-art carpet is a playful, seldom-seen vine and flowerhead motif, which allows the field pattern to be more fully expressed.
