Twitter Facebook Pinterest(High-Collectible) ("The California Collection") The mid-19th-century weavers of Bakshaish never fail to surprise with their eternally innovative weavings, such as this fascinatingly lyrical piece reminiscent of rugs from the larger towns, which may have provided the inspiration for this exceedingly rare depiction. Within the faceted, parchment-toned reserve, spaciously swirling tendrils with curvaceous flame-tipped blossoms point toward a translucent quatrefoil medallion that is a bold and delicate frame for the finely striated field tone. Fringed anchor pendants stretch toward triangular palmettes ensconced between corner spandrels based in dark walnut. The Northwest Persian color palette is exquisite, reflecting precision in dyeing rare warm earth shades and an abundance of varied indigo hues favored by this elevated village. Luminous borders feature meandering, surrealistic oak leaves that undergo wonderfully dramatic abrash color shifts that imbue this piece with a vivifying, painterly sense of capturing light and shade for maximum visual impact. Extraordinarily finely woven, it has long been respected and cared for as it has retained mostly heavier pile condition.
