("New Arrivals Gallery") Mat-size antique camelhair rugs are an unusual find, and those of excellent quality from the village of Bibikabad, within the multifariously prolific Hamadan region, are even less likely to be encountered. This top-flight representative dazzles through its extremely fine knotting and inventive folkloric artistry. Pomegranate and almond flowers break free from the latticework at the top and bottom, adding a distinctive whimsy to this piece. The negative space of the buff-toned, jewel-shaped open field powerfully emboldens the Herati-inspired medallion and surrounding motifs rendered in a rich earth-toned palette of red auburn, mocha, spruce green, and illumined sapphire blue. Exquisitely intentional abrash color striations, especially those found in the wide girth of luxurious camelhair in the margins, show a wide variety of natural shades. Extremely good condition and lustrous wool enhance its practicality and timeless beauty.
