(High-Collectible)
("Great Lakes Collection") Offering an exquisitely balanced presentation, this winsome piece is based upon the virtually never found ’sunburst’ type of Ferahan provenance, known for refined weavings of a stately yet improvisational nature. This early rendition captures a potent, magical ambiance initiated by the central serrated form sprouting flowers in all directions. The inklings of truncated sunbursts emerge at the top and bottom of the sandy blonde field to be met by flower-filled handled urns rendered almost like artfully detailed stencil prints while sprouting figural boteh ’Seeds of Life’ pirouette around the perimeter. Ethereal reticulated latticework can be faintly seen throughout the space as a feat of virtuoso skill that could have easily been omitted, but not so for this accomplished artist-weaver. In the main border, the wonderful repeated bouquet-and-urn motif encircles the central design, sharing their turf with diminutive 'tumar' talismans that float in between. This one-in-the-world rug remains in even pile condition with a slight patina earned over some 170 years. GLC rugs cannot be purchased using exchange credit.
