(High-Collectible)
This is a totally unexpected Ferahan carpet and a phenomenally early example, with the delicacy of its botanical elements inspiring awe and wonderment. It presents an exotic design quite unlike others we have seen before, starting with the vermilion splash impression of a radial medallion with an open lotus at its center. Tulip forms grow into ethereal vinery that connects rosette varietals and grand anchor pendants like intertwined waterbirds extend beyond the ring of flame palmettes that are the outer limits of the centerpiece. A verdant botanical maelstrom sweeps across the field in an enchanting pattern, expressing rare hues of leaf green, opaque slate blue, rosy golds, and delicate peach blush - a palette that would have been awe inspiring then as now. Generously wide borders are seamlessly integrated into the whole with escutcheon forms and inky indigo cypress tree fronds visually woven together by lyrically swirling tendrils. Surprisingly formal while maintaining easy tranquility, this heavier piled carpet exemplifies the fantastic range of Ferahan weaving during this era, illumined by the rich, glistening patina of great age.
