(Connoisseur-Caliber)
The finest 19th century Ferahan Sarouks can be startlingly beautiful in their original presentations and this area size piece is no exception. Here Aegean blue corner spandrels, appearing to be float beyond the borders, occupy a major portion of the overall design, acting as a sea on which an onion-shaped continent with half-hidden upper and lower peninsulas protrude. The astonishing wool pile of this outsized ornament resonates as though coated in alluvial Colchian gold. At the heart of this evocative rug is a midnight sapphire medallion with exuberant, botanically inspired imagery. Its standout seldom-seen palette includes tones of mahogany, caramel, teak, and rose, while peppered throughout are olive and sea greens. Surrounding this masterful field design, an appropriately deferential framing features a repeating chain of three distinctly different blossoms on a dusty rose base.
