(High-Collectible-Plus) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) Woven from the early 18th to the turn of the 20th century,Ferahan Sarouks are highly prized Persian carpets. Stylistically less formal than those woven in the big cities, the town rugs satisfied the elite who sought out their stately designs and distinct stylized floral style. It has been suggested that the most skillful Armenian weavers were responsible for the lion’s share of these early masterpieces. The elaborate double centerpiece of this sumptuous carpet is like two galaxies entwining within an alabaster surround replete with flowing vines, finely etched arabesques, and a profusion of minuscule blossoms. As epitomised by this piece, the Ferahan Sarouk style, with its finely crafted complexity, also includes the artistic allowance for freedom of spontaneity and latitude for expression. Its color palette is thoroughly in the Ferahan Sarouk regal canon, but with delicate gradients that imbue this substantial carpet with an expansive variety of hues not found in the majority of rugs found in this style.
