Such exceptionally conceived and inventive work includes two small, highly articulated crowns at the top and bottom of the medallion, a quite unusual motif for a Ferahan, except when commissioned by royalty. It is known that the ruling Qajars were frequent customers of Ferahan workshops, making this an entirely real possibility. An elegant lobed medallion sits on the alabaster field surrounded by naturalistically cascading blossoms of many different species, made particularly poignant because of the tightness of the weave. The expanded open spacing at the bottom of the field is a remarkable feature as it artistically enlivens the entire piece as does the use of Ferahan’s exceptional wool. Learn About This Rug Type
