(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") At virtually two centuries of age, this one-in-the-world Persian Ferahan carpet offers a unique design with the vibrancy of a master-planned garden in bloom. Expertly drawn with painstaking detail, this composition reflects an earlier, more creatively adventurous era long before commercial interests began to promote a much more limited range of traditional carpet patterns. Four pairs of cypress trees aligned in two columns ascend the field amidst groupings of flowering, filigree-stemmed plants. The entire composition resembles a delicate stained glass window depicting an abstract, idealized Garden of Paradise. The arresting, exotic color palette dramatically shifts across all zones at the vertical midpoint through an exceptionally bold abrash technique. The glazed celadon blush of the field becomes a brighter, more delicate shade while the jungle green of the cypress trees burst into olive highlights. Fan palmettes and sculpted, expressive leaves in the rich ember red main border are individually rendered with subtle nuance in color and shape that would take a lifetime to discover fully, creating a sense of aliveness in every motif. It is enclosed on each side by two minor bands with meandering boteh seeds and carnation vines.
