This rare example of Garrus Bijar Silk work, is a highly collectible specimen for its pristine condition, observant original design and the exceedingly fine craftsmanship from the settled Kurdish. It also a tribute to the tribal sensitivity that has influenced the other artistic rug traditions as seen in this piece depicting avian “courtship feeding”. Shown numerous times at the top of each crossed fronds motif in a flower festooned nest is a female bird with crest feathers being fed by a male fluttering in place to the left of her. It is possible this rug was made to celebrate a wealthy person’s marriage or simply to express such a charming theme. This precious rug is framed by the classic three-dimensional, wide Garrus main border in an extraordinarily deep shade of teal.
