(High-Collectible-Plus) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) Hadji Jallili, the renowned master carpet designer from Tabriz in the 19th century, no doubt carefully monitored the creation of this dignified oversize Garden carpet. This design style is renowned and beloved for conjuring a classical Persian garden layout where uniform beds are dedicated to a single species of flower. Traditionally, divisions between the flowerbeds held water and, in the carpets, were shown in blue often with floating carp meant as an expression of harmony between nature and human ingenuity. In this staggering example, Jallili's garden is laid out in extraordinary detail, taking this format to new heights. Being of Sufi persuasion, the narrow canals are adorned with cloud-like repeating cartouches filled with lyrically drawn calligraphy, no doubt quoting Rumi or Hafiz or another mystic expressing profound insights. Each panel consists of six compartments depicting finally etched motifs, including flowering trees, the “Seed of Life” (boteh), and flora-filled vases, as well as colonnaded archways. Circular mandalas are overlaid upon the pattern at eye-pleasing intervals while the main border, sharing the same tonalities as the field instead of in typical, contributes a unique pattern of cypresses with tulip-shaped tops to this impressive carpet.
