(High-Collectible)
("New Arrivals Gallery") This phenomenal 170-year-old carpet exemplifies the enrapturing beauty and technical mastery of the finest Persian floral weaving style in the mid-19th century. The elliptical central portal reveals a bountiful bouquet-filled vessel amidst a glittering garden of delightful flora. The surrounding field exhibits precision labyrinthine scrollwork encapsulating a rich profusion of blossoming vinery and floral sprays, along with the occasional pomegranate, and are intricately depicted by this rug’s ultra-fine weave. Four mythical ‘simurghs’ (the Persian version similar to the phoenix) reside amidst the splendorous scene, seemingly ready to bestow their benevolence and ageless knowledge to the fortunate owner of this rug. A painstaking effort at detailing in the border has yielded lush waves of curling vinery supporting a series of cartouches that show flowering vases. Although of very great age, this exquisite piece has been tread upon sparingly and remains in extraordinarily good heavy pile condition.
