(Connoisseur-Caliber)
("New Arrivals Gallery") This phenomenal 170-year-old carpet exemplifies the enrapturing beauty and technical mastery of one of the most accomplished Persian floral carpet weaving styles of the mid-19th century from the former Sassanian royal city of Kermanshah. A lush and exotic floating orchard takes shape across an illumined ivory background, even continuing out of view beyond a wall of minuscule flowering vines, endowing the pattern with a continual sense of movement. Towering cypresses are wreathed in willowy crimson trees held aloft by vessels of cloudband. Bouquets of diverse blossoms create secondary patterns that appear to advance and retreat into the background depending on their color and sublime outlining technique. Feathery fronds offer pleasing curves to the eye as they trace over this stunning arboreal tableau. Painstaking effort was taken at detailing in the border, which has yielded abundant waves of curling vinery supporting a sparkling array of infinite flora circumambulating the field. Although of great age, this exquisite piece has been tread upon sparingly and remains in extraordinarily good pile condition.
