KERMANSHAH
2' 3" x 10' 7" (69 x 323cm) Circa 1850
(High-Collectible)
("New Arrivals Gallery")
This stellar mid-19th-century Kermanshah narrow runner lures the eye with its dramatic synthesis of empty space, very bold outlining, and the signature low, even cut pile, giving the surface a glass-like quality and the composition a ‘chiseled’ effect where design edges appear thrillingly sharp and distinct. The unadorned camel-toned reserve areas are animated by a gentle, rhythmic shift in tone that creates a luminous effect, and by the articulation of the periphery, which reflects an ancient pelt-like character. The outlining is particularly evocative due to bold strokes, high-contrast color juxtapositions, and intricate kaleidoscopic patterns. Its European-inspired color palette tempts with saturated hues of crimson, bronze, pale peach, dusty rose, midnight indigo, ivory, and burnished gold. The powerful iconography, sophisticated color palette, and superb condition, even at a substantial age, of this charismatic Kermanshah can completely transform a hallway's ambiance.
