(High-Collectible)
Rugs woven in Kermanshah with allover designs are extremely rare and venture away from more courtly medallion designs, without losing their power or grace. This exceptionally finely woven 150-year-old Kermanshah rug boasts an astonishingly detailed wonderland of levitating trees and profuse blossoming plant motifs. Its dexterously nuanced, exceedingly detailed pattern language of flowers and buds is distilled to organically contoured elementary shapes with astonishing sensitivity. So much so that every exquisitely drawn flower form, branch, and leaf seems to grow before your eyes, imbuing the parchment-toned field with animation. Every botanic element is subtly shaded in soft, complementary hues purposely chosen for harmony and contrast distilled through a dextrous understated abrash technique. Within this rich verdure, birds that become one with the flowers posture and preen amongst the floating paradise and crown each jungle green cypress. The enchanting and impressive impact of this superb 19th-century piece is amplified by its remarkably preserved heavy pile that glistens with a magical patina only available through the finest quality 19th-century mountain wool and the unhurried hand of time.
