KURDISH CAMELHAIR, Northwest Persian
3' 2" x 6' 4" Late 19th Century $5,600, with 20% incentive: $4,480
(High-Decorative)
In this highly idiosyncratic tribal rug, a warm camelhair field is sparsely populated with artfully stylized cruciform medallions and blossoming plants. The spirited use of ivory and frequent color shifts effectively adds to a sense of visual depth, the original intent of the weaver to create a seemingly three-dimensional canvas. Among the Kurds, this intentional color variation or "abrash" is called 'the path of the sun. (Contact Claremont 2 at 800-883-1300)
