(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") In this utterly exquisite 170-year-old Laver Kirman, we see a flowering "Garden of Paradise" motif, joyously rendered, in an axial arrangement of lotus, camellia, iris, and peony blossoms. Seldom seen, naturally derived hues include a profusion of ripe pomegranate, glistening saffron, tangerine, and a scintillating range of consummately dyed blues; all still gleaming after some 170 years in this rare gem of a rug. A profoundly collectible piece, it demonstrates an unabashed expressiveness that carries into the borders. The hand-drawn nature of the design within the primary framing of escutcheon palmettes and swirling tendrils reflects an artistic milieu that supported ingenuity over technical prowess, allowing floral weavers working on a smaller rug as the only knotter to invent to their heart's content.
