LAVER KIRMAN, Southeast Persian
8' 5" x 12' 3"
3rd Quarter, 19th Century
(High-Collectible) This exquisite room-size Laver Kirman rug exemplifies the subtle artistry and brilliantly combined, time-softened color for which the very best pieces in this 19th century style are so understandably prized. Intensified by the sheer luminosity of a very unusual, spacious antique ivory surround, the organically inspired grand medallion radiates with an intense vitality only tempered by the extreme nuance of its presentation. In addition to rare celadon and garnet tones, virtually never-seen apricot outlines captivate the viewer with their extraordinary delicacy. Each motif is drawn individually with great clarity, most notably the rhythmic meanders that fill the sophisticated border suite. Virtuoso sapphire blue abrash gives dynamic weight to the upper portion of the composition, adding one more unexpected innovation to this stellar carpet, which little the great majority of Treasury rugs is in superb condition.
