LAVER KIRMAN, Southeast Persian
10' 6" x 11' 9"
3rd Quarter, 19th Century
(Connoisseur-Caliber) This exquisite 150-year-old Laver Kirman is a splendid example of a format we very seldom see: an almost square room size! Employing this virtually square shape allowed the rug's weavers to use of an elegant, circular, wreath-formed center medallion, with its sense of great visual movement. Exhibiting a painstaking level of attention that was lost in rugs woven at the end of the 1800s, its pattern reveals a breathtaking filigree of detail, delicate ever-changing color, and an elegant sense of movement that exemplifies what we call an art-level carpet. Throughout this piece, one can see a feast of colors from azure to sapphire in the medallion, soft gold and rose in the corners, and a beautiful moss and garnet combination in the border. The rug offers the delights of a patina that only develops in carpets well over a century of age, and which subtly amplifies the depth of its full range of natural dyes. Learn About This Rug Type
