(“Winter 2019 New Acquisition“) This Mishin Malayer rug, an early example of a Central Persian village syle highly respected for a finely woven handkerchief handle, excels in its astonishing combination of painstaking textural designs. Consummate attention is given to the tiny "shrub" motifs that artistically seem to expand outward beyond the field's frame. Three wonderfully-balanced and lovingly executed borders amazingly capture a sense of two different rhythms circling the field. Warm auburn set off by teal, aubergine, and touches of burnished gold and metallic green bejewel this engaging design.
