(High-Collectible-Plus) (One of 70 "Best-of-Their-Type Rugs" Sold in 2025) Created two centuries ago, this breathtaking, deeply individual piece presents an exponentially rare double column design that Oriental rug scholars say originated from 18th-century Anatolian rugs, evoking classical Mediterranean elements through the lense of Persian architecture and weaving tradition. This ecstatic piece shows the absolute mastery and tremendous talent expressed by its virtuosic weaver. Beyond this inviting portal, a lively, prolific garden manifests from grand bifurcated urns to dance around a casually drawn medallion and pendant focal point. The columns inspire a particular fascination because of diagonally fluted pillars dramatically enhanced by the luminous cerulean blues running down each channel like enchanted rivulets. The capitals are exquisite in design and a showcase of Mohtasham color mastery, subliminally amplified by subtle abrash—the painterly command of color shifts from lighter to darker hues. Illumined by an exquisite 200-year-old patina, this visionary carpet is finished with a painstakingly composed border featuring a glorious assemblage of palmettes and flowerheads linked by fecund vinery on a luxuriant midnight background.
