(High-Collectible)
("One of “60 Best-of-Their-Type Rugs Sold in 2022") Mohtasham Kashans were overwhelmingly made in the medallion and cornerpiece format. This staggering art rug shows an exceedingly rare and magical version of the Garden of Paradise design. It is a visionary, surreal landscape woven with unfathomable expertise gained over a lifetime. Sinuous branches grow heavenward from a svelte vase while golden trees burst with a wealth of jubilantly hued blooms, pomegranates, and grape bunches. Technicolor cypress trees guard over a rippled pool of fish, curious searching birds, and resting deer that meld into the landscape. In the spandrels, a cosmic contest between dragons and phantom felines (manifestations of the often mischievous jinn) plays out eternally. Such virtuoso attention to every design element and exotic hue is appreciated by rug cognoscenti by hanging them at eye level on the wall, as did the collectors of this masterpiece.
