(Decorative) Paisleys, which most likely originated from the tribal ‘boteh’ or ‘Seed of Life’ motif, were extremely popular among Persian weavers around the turn of the 20th century. In this vintage Senneh Oriental rug, a very appealing and complex texture is created by rows of graceful paisleys surrounded by abstract floral sprays. Enclosing this ‘infinite’ field of ‘seeds’ is a powerfully geometricized main border depicting an elemental interpretation of the classic meandering vine and flowerhead border pattern. An extremely luminous shade of lapis blue is particularly endearing. (INQUIRE ABOUT THIS RUG AT CLAREMONT 2, 1-800-883-1815)
