(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery") Weavings from the region surrounding the Serab in Northwest Persia are known for their innovative, folkloric patterning within a traditionally recognizable and sought-after aesthetic framework. This carpet’s copper-hued stepped diamond medallion features stylized ‘botehs’ or ‘Seeds of Life’ motifs in a latticework of vinery sprouting daisies and carnations. The parchment reserve hosts a gardenscape of roses with cubistic buds where tiny horses graze, and petals scatter as though caught in a gentle breeze. Corner spandrels carry on the pattern found in the medallion, with intrepid painterly “brushstrokes” of vivid red ochre. Prized camelhair yarn, often spun from the wool of the weaver’s own camels, yields exceptionally soft earthen tones, and the rich, golden brown undyed camelhair used in constructing this winsome rug displays subtle abrash, visually texturing the surface like soft sand dunes. This effect is especially acute in the unadorned margin surrounding the’ Shah Abbas’ palmette, flowerhead, and vine border. In superb condition with heavier pile, this carpet would effortlessly harmonize with umpteen interior decors from any era.
