Twitter Facebook Pinterest(High-Collectible) ("The California Collection") This rug is undoubtedly among the most original and entrancing Serab rugs we have ever encountered, as most feature a central medallion. Here we have conjoined overlapping serrated diamonds stretching horizontally across the field. There are technically three in each row; however, they alternate between three whole diamonds and two whole diamonds with bifurcated halves on either side. Clusters of poppies and daisies adorn the stalks found inside. It is a pattern that we have not seen in our decades-long handling of antique Serab rugs or in the available extant literature. Etched into the zig-zag portions of the camel field left behind are structures bearing the ethereal forms of peonies and palmettes appearing to be in the distance and providing a rich sense of dimensionality. Its color palette is highly varied and juxtaposed with the deft touch of chromatic mastery. An extra-wide, unadorned camelhair margin is a fitting, serene coda to the mesmerizing activity in the field and energetic border suite.
