The village of Serab in Northwest Persia was renowned as a major source of long, narrow runners in the 19th century, making them equally ideal for major hallways as well as narrow spaces. A highly contrasting latticework of angular geometry dominates the field with dazzling clarity, imbuing the composition with enchanting charisma. The long-venerated tribal motif, the Star of Wisdom, the symbol of protection and individuality, is dramatically featured in brilliant vermillion suspended on the architectural lattice in a subtly deconstructed manner. Angular floral, and diminutive tribal motifs convey abundance as they fill all available space around the lattice. Ivory and red borders of geometricized blossoms artistically complement the camelhair field. The sophisticated palette of camelhair and earth tones, combined with a timeless abstract style, makes this 150-year-old art runner in the rarely found 20-foot length extremely versatile and able to complement rugs in other Persian village and tribal styles.
