(Connoisseur-Caliber) ("New Arrivals Gallery")Serapis are grouped by the setting where each rug was woven, i.e., in larger workshops in the town of Heriz or on the family level in the outlying villages. The Heriz area evolved hosted royal sponsored workshops in the 17th and 18th centuries, so the weaving craft was extremely well-honed at both levels of creation. The best of the village Serapis, such as this awe-inspiring piece with its overall angularity, offers spaciously placed, charmingly drawn flowers, vines, and leaves. No two elements are rendered quite the same. A rare golden sand field hosts a lapis medallion surrounded by aged softened crimson and dusty rose. Reflecting this style’s eminent aesthetic that graphically captures nature’s aliveness, this nearly 150-year-old, large 9x12 is in superb condition. Learn About This Rug Type
